Before taking VCOG’s reins in 2008, Megan worked for 10 years for VCOG’s founding director — and her mentor — Frosty Landon. Megan’s interest in FOIA was sparked by an internship at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. FOIA’s premise made sense to her: we must all have access to information if we are to be our own governors. Working for Frosty, though, showed Megan what it meant to bring those high-minded ideals into the real world. Megan was a disc jockey throughout college at the University of North Carolina, and after law school at the University of Colorado, she thought for a minute that she’d be the next Nina Totenberg. Born and raised in Williamsburg, Megan enjoys running, reading and Parks & Recreation reruns.

Marinda Risk is a nonprofit development professional based in the greater Charlottesville area. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and brings extensive experience in writing, marketing, and communications, with a background supporting organizations focused on mental health counseling and healthy aging. She is passionate about helping organizations communicate effectively with their audiences and build meaningful community connections. Her journalism background sparked a lasting interest in the Freedom of Information Act, making the Virginia Coalition for Open Government’s mission a natural fit. Marinda enjoys creating art, gardening, and spending time with her husband, two boys, and two cats.
