With a unanimous vote last Tuesday, the King George Board of Supervisors removed Kevin Myers from the county’s Planning Commission due to repeated unexcused absences. James Madison District Supervisor Kenneth Stroud introduced the motion for Myers’ removal, citing his failure to meet attendance requirements, specifically, more than four unexcused absences within the past 12 months. Under Virginia State Code, the local governing body can remove a member of its planning commission who is absent from any three consecutive planning commission meetings or any four meetings within any 12-month period.
The Suffolk School Board approved recommended amendments to a number of its policies during the Oct. 23 meeting. Some discussion was had about amending the current violation protocol, and if a time limit should be imposed on Board members during Board comments and written into policy. Ordinance 25/26-40 proposed amending the current process of informing a Board member they violate Board policy. As the policy stands now, there is nothing included about if the Board Chair wants to file notice of a claim against another Board member, or if a Board member wants to file a claim against the Chair.
